Hi Everyone!! I am back with yet another installment of what to do with Yupo paper cutouts that I have cut using my Silhouette Curio digital die cut machine 
. This time I am using them to emboss regular cardstock, and in this video I am using cardstock that I printed using the Gelli Plate rather than starting with just plain cardstock which also would work. I take two cutouts and layer them on top of each other lining them up as close to perfect as possible and then glue them together.
I show you the setup I use in my Sizzix Big Shot machine. The Big Shot Machine comes with a multi-purpose platform that has a series of tabs that give you guidance on how many to use based on what you are using them with. Since they do not have a setup for Yupo paper cutouts, haha, I had to figure out the best combination.
In this case I use a specific embossing/impression platform that is sold separately from the BigShot machine, and it comes with a piece of rubber. It seems to allow for a better impressions when embossing with things other than embossing folders, which are still the gold standard in my mind. However when you want to use your own design, this technique is the next best thing! If you don’t have this set, you can still use this technique, but you will need more of the tabs on the Sizzix platform (probably all of them) and two regular cutting mats that come with the BigShot machine. Additionally, you still need a piece of embossing rubber like the one that Sizzix sells here. Spellbinders also sells one and I list one from Amazon down below.
The set up if you are using the embossing platform is as follows:
- the Sizzix platform with no tabs
- the embossing platform
- the rubber
- the cardstock (in this case I put it face down but you can play around with that)
- the stack of 2 Yupo paper cutouts glued together
- a cutting plate
- possibly some pieces of paper or thin plastic to use as shims
If you don’t have the embossing/impression platform then the stack will look something like this (you may need to play around with it a bit):
- the Sizzix platform with all tabs (or all but one)
- a cutting plate
- the rubber
- the cardstock (in this case I put it face down but you can play around with that)
- the stack of 2 Yupo paper cutouts glued together
- a cutting plate
- possibly some pieces of paper or thin plastic to use as shims
You can spray the cardstock with water if you like. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. It can help with the paper not tearing as much if the sandwich is a bit too tight or the embossing plate is too deep.
Run the whole stack through the BigShot machine. It should have a small amount of resistance as you roll, but not too much where it feels like your machine will break! It should feel about the same as when you follow the Sizzix guidelines with an embossing folder or one of their dies.
Voila! you have the impression of your die cuts! I use inks to bring out the impression and make it show up even more!
Once you have the Yupo paper cut and glued together, this becomes a quick Take 5 project. You can follow along with the video and give this technique a try! Have fun!!
